This is the second book in Terri L. Austin’s Rose Strickland Mystery Book series.
SPOILER ALERT: There may be some spoilers regarding the first book in this series.
One of Rose’s best friends, Janelle, is in jail for the attempted murder of her ex-husband. She is adamant that she didn’t do it and Rose believes her. However, Janelle had motive (he’s a douche and owes her a lot of childs support) and she was at his place shortly before having an argument with him.
Rose is on the case. The police aren’t helping, they think it’s clear cut, so she needs to find out who did this, and why. Along the way, she finds some troubling information regarding Sullivan, the shady owner of an illegal gambling ring who has helped Rose out of some sticky situations.
In the mean time, Rudy’s Roundup Restaurant is encroaching on Ma’s Diner’s territory and is starting to serve breakfast. Ma is pissed about this, and it means war. Ma starts selling lunch and its a fight to see who puts who out of business first.
On the romance front, Rose and Sullivan have kept in touch since they clashed over Axton’s kidnapping. Not much there yet, but you can feel something growing. Dane is also in the wings helping Rose out as Janelle’s attorney, and he’s very muchly interested in Rose.
This is another solid story. Rose is a very relatable with her uncertainty in life and her drive to help her friends. Who doesn’t want a friend like Rose there to help them when they need it?
